In 2001, I was visiting Japan for the 1st time. I didn't know much except I wanted to see cars.
I was in Yokohama for a few days. I had an older cousin in Nagoya and said that I should take the Shinkansen to Nagoya.
It was my 1st time on a Shinkansen and I couldn't believe how fast it was. I lost those pictures in 2008 when my desktop computer hard drive died.

In 2016, I returned to Japan with my wife (her 1st time). We were trying to go to our hotel in Kanda station and we came to insane Tokyo Train map...
I was like, "which train, let's go". She was like, "we have to get on the proper train".
My wife is more analytical than me. I didn't get the train system until the end of that trip.
I had to go to 2 car events, one in Shizuoka and the other in Odaiba. I had to jump on many trains to work out that whole day!

I was returning in 2017 and this trip was about traversing Japan from Iwakuni to Sendai... so I studied a lot of the train routes and some of the Shinkansen timing.
It was at that point, I realize that the train system was amazing to use to travel to many of the areas I went to in Japan.
-----------------------------------------------------
I started adding side trips and train routes just to say I experienced the trains. I started to see why many people love Japanese trains on so many levels.
While I don't live in Japan, I have fallen in love with Japanese Railways and on my trip, I definitely add more lines and rural areas to explore based on those trains.
Many Japanese Railway companies have made great strides to attract railfans with various ways to commemorate riding on their trains.
